Kennedy, Jr. still cites consolidation in the meat packing sector, Brazil’s competition regulator, the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE), has approved a merger of two major Brazilian meat processors, Marfrig and BRF. That merger would create a new global giant in the protein space. Estimated annual revenues would be $28 billion. The merger proceeded with no restrictions from CADE. The approval will be finalized on 18 June when the window closes for appeals against the finding that the merger does not threaten competition.
