Outlook for Negotiation Week; Notable Global Policy Developments

Outlook for Negotiation Week China-U.S.: Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce Wang Shouwen meets with U.S. Treasury Under Secretary David Malpass in an effort to set a course for resolving the trade war. However, Malpass also has the advantage of having previously served as the American lead at the National Committee on United States-China Relations. The two sides are unlikely to bridge the wide chasm, and there are fresh rounds of tariffs and retaliatory tariffs in the offing - a $16 billion tranche facing 25 percent tariffs this week and a much larger package next month after public hearings are completed this week in Wash...

Communicating importance of value-added products

Facing increasing pressure to quantify the value of export promotion efforts to investors, a U.S. industry organization retained WPI to develop a quantitative model that better communicated the importance of exports. The resulting model concluded that value-added meat exports contributed $0.45 cents per bushel to the price of corn, increasing support for that sector’s financial support of WPI’s client. In addition to serving the red meat industry with this type of analysis, WPI has generated similar deliverables for the U.S. soybean and poultry/egg industries.
