Transatlantic Glue

China understandably responded harshly to the Biden Administration’s sharp increase in tariffs on EV’s and components. However, there is not much that Beijing can do about it except retaliate. The EU already shared Washington’s angst about China undermining Western industries and now Brussels is worried that if it fails to match actions by Washington, it will only increase the volume that the Middle Kingdom dumps on Europe.  However, the German and French governments appear to be split on how to respond. The French endorsed Washington’s actions and believe that Europe should replicate the tariffs. Germany is not yet on board since it has a larger share of its companies operating in China. From WPI Consulting

Forecasting developments in production agriculture

On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt. WPI’s model has subsequently provided quantitative support to a multi-million-dollar investment into short-season corn variety development. WPI’s methodology included a series of interviews with regional grain elevators and seed consultants. Emphasizing outreach and communication with stakeholders who possess intimate sectoral knowledge – on-the-ground insights – is a regular component of WPI’s methodologies, made possible by WPI’s ever-growing network of industry contacts.
